Before You Plan Your Next Offsite, Ask a Better Question

The real measure of a leadership offsite isn’t what people learn that day. It’s what becomes part of how they work together afterward.
The leadership team has an offsite coming up. Someone asks, “Who should we get to lead it?”
A few names surface. Perhaps it’s a speaker who received rave reviews at a conference, an author with a compelling new book, or a consultant whose framework promises to transform how people work together. The discussion turns to availability, fees, and audience appeal.
All reasonable considerations. But what if the team is answering the wrong question?
Before choosing who should lead the offsite, shouldn’t the organization determine what it hopes to accomplish, whether the proposed ideas address a genuine need, and whether leadership is prepared to embrace what those ideas demand?
Put another way, are we introducing something to our people that we’re genuinely committed to making part of who we are and how we operate?
